The beautiful scenery of Madison County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is a very short section so better bring some good walking shoes.     Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Castor River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the CR 253 to CR 208 section is the only one. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The beauty of the Ozarks is a great plus for this river. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Missouri tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. This stretch of Castor River is 1.4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. Briefly about the general area: From a rainfall point of view Castor River is a reasonably common site; the month with most of the rain is March, and January on the other hand is the driest. There's splendid   hiking along the John J Audubon Trail. For the period of the summertime months, highs ordinarily are in the 80's at Castor River. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 60's. Throughout the winter this place gets highs in the 30's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Castor River descend into the 10's.
