This stretch of Castor River is 1.4 miles long and has been rated as a class III section by American Whitewater. When you're paddling down a Ozarks river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. The starting location is a short drive from Farmington, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. For all you camping people there are     campgrounds nearby. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Castor River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the CR 253 to CR 208 section is the only one. The natural beauty of Missouri and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This is a very short section so better bring some good walking shoes. Briefly about the general area: Castor River gets a common amount of precipitation; March is the month that gets the most rain;   January meanwhile is the driest month. Good hiking is available along the John J Audubon Trail. Summertime highs at Castor River mostly tend to be in the 80's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 60's. Daytime highs all through the winter are in the 30's, and all through the dark hours in the winter at Castor River temperatures plunge to the 10's.
