The Highway 72 to St. Francis River section of Little St. Francis River in Madison County is 15 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I section. The nature scenery of Madison County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good     rivers for that around here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The starting location is a short drive from Farmington, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Highway 72 to St. Francis River section is one of them. Whitewater paddling here in the Ozarks is a great experience. Briefly about the general area: The Silver Mine Trail is a splendid hiking trail next   to Little St. Francis River. During the summertime here at Little St. Francis River, high temperatures frequently get into the 80's while overnight lows are typically in the 60's. Highs during the wintertime are generally in the 40's, and through the dark hours in the winter at Little St. Francis River temperatures drop to the 20's. From a rainfall point of view Little St. Francis River is a reasonably typical location; March is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest month of the year is January.
