Missouri whitewater - Lower Rock Creek, Ozarks, Madison County
Madison
county,
Barren Hollow to Highway E section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV 3 miles
Been here and there is not a good put-in site for a boat. The creek is one mile from where you can park a car unless it's right next to the St Francis river and that means you won't be kayaking down this creek. Which is impossible unless there is serious rainfall. Says Chef
The Barren Hollow to Highway E stretch of Lower Rock Creek is 3 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV section. The scenic beauty of Missouri and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The sections for whitewater
rafting and kayaking here in Missouri are often more forgiving than in other states, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. The beauty of the Ozarks is a great plus for this river. The starting point is not too far from Farmington, please print out a copy
of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This is a bit of a short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. This is the only paddling section along Lower Rock Creek. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the
night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
