Missouri whitewater - Mud Creek, Ozarks, Madison County Madison county, Highway D to St. Francis River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS IV+     1.4 miles   The Highway D to St. Francis River stretch of Mud Creek is 1.4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV+ section of whitewater. The natural beauty of Madison County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The river winds through the Ozarks and you get great scenery. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Missouri are easier than the national norm, so keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because     it is a very popular destination. The put-in location is a short drive from Farmington, as you can see on the road map further down. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Mud Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Highway D to St. Francis River section is the only one. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. This is an extremely short section so better bring some good walking shoes. Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Mud Creek all through the days of summer are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 60's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 40's while   Mud Creek overnight low temperatures throughout the wintertime are in the 20's. Whohoo, so many fun things in one place! The Ozarks is so good! A range like the Smith Mountains here at Mud Creek is always beautiful. The amount of rainfall that falls at Mud Creek is close to the national average; March is when you get the most rain here while January is mostly the driest month. Going for a hike on the Silver Mine Trail is always a great adventure, and if you're here, you might as well stop by Mud Creek Shut-in.
