The nature scenery of Ste. Genevieve County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The put-in is not too far from Farmington, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room
before you come because it is a very popular destination. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. Whitewater paddling here in the Ozarks is a great experience. This
stretch of Pickle Creek is 2.4 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This is a bit of a short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. This is the only paddling stretch along Pickle Creek. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here.
Briefly about the general area: La Hae Spring is an inspiring place to take a look at while here, and Big Spring Hollow is a
good place to spend some time. You just can't envision the amount of outdoors amusing stuff the Ozarks has to offer. There are perfect places to look at along the John J Audubon Trail. Summer at Pickle Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 80's with night lows in the
60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's with temperatures at Pickle Creek dipping down into the 10's through winter nights. Pickle Creek is a good location of typical rain; the wettest month of the year is generally May, that's the one that rains the most, and February on the other hand is the driest.
