The beautiful scenery of Missouri and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. The river winds through the Ozarks and you get great scenery. This section of Roaring River in Missouri is 5.8 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. Roaring River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Roaring River State Park to Highway 86 section is the only one. If
you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find
many other paddling spots. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the summer months at Roaring River temperatures are typically in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Roaring River are in the
20's. Near Roaring River you locate fine sites like Pine Hollow. All the water falling down from the sky makes Roaring River a wet site; the month with most of the rain is June, and the driest of the months is January.
