The wonderful St. Francois Madison County scenery and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This section of St. Francis River is 10.7 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. The starting point is not too far from Farmington, as you can see on the road map further down. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here
are not as hard as elsewhere. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. If you have the time you can make
this a two day trip, so why not pack your camping stuff too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Highway H to Highway 72 stretch is just one of many. The beauty of the Ozarks is a great plus for this river.
Briefly about the general area: At St. Francis River through the days of summer highs are in the 80's. For the period of the dark hours of summer
temperatures drop down into the 60's. During the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at St. Francis River are in the 20's. An average amount of precipitation falls at St. Francis River; during March this area sees the most rain while January
is regularly the driest month. Having a splendid time in the Ozarks is easy. A tremendous place close to St. Francis River is Wildcat Hollow; you can go for a hike on the Silver Mine Trail.
