The starting location is a short drive from Farmington, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Missouri scenery and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch of St. Francis River is 3.2 miles long and it is classified as a class II section by American Whitewater. This is a somewhat short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all
set. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. Getting a good workout
and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. Whitewater paddling here in the Ozarks is a great experience. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Highway 72 to Millstream Gardens stretch is just one of many.
Briefly about the general area: All through the warm months at St. Francis River highs are frequently in the 80's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's, and night lows in the 20's for St. Francis River. The annual
rainfall here at St. Francis River is about average; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain, and January is the month with the least moisture. But wait, there's more amusing stuff to do in the Ozarks. Nearby Tiemann Shut-in is a perfect site to go if you're at St. Francis River; going for a hike along the Silver Mine Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood.
