The natural beauty of Iron County and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. The starting location is a short drive from Farmington, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. The Ozarks scenery is wonderful. The Highway M west of Ironton section of Stouts Creek in Missouri is 1 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III section. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside
this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Highway M west of Ironton section is one of them. There are campgrounds quite
near the river where you can camp. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is an extremely short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers.
Briefly about the general area: Having a perfect time in the Ozarks is uncomplicated. Wallace Hollow is a fine location to look at, and close by you hit upon
the Taum Sauk Trail which is a perfect hiking trail. All the water falling down from the sky makes Stouts Creek a wet site; the month with most of the rain is March, and the driest month of the year is January. At Stouts Creek through the days of summer highs are in the 80's.
Summer overnight lows dip down to the 60's. Through the wintertime highs are mostly in the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Stouts Creek.
