The starting point is not too far from Farmington, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The wonderful Missouri scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. When you're paddling down a Ozarks river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon     trip. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are no other sections to paddle along Taum Sauk Creek than the Taum Sauk Mountain to Little Taum Sauk Creek section. This section of Taum Sauk Creek in Iron - Reynolds County is 7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V section. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. Briefly about the general area: Through the summer at Taum Sauk Creek highs are ordinarily in the 80's. Once the sun is down it descends down to   the 60's. Highs during the wintertime are generally in the 40's while Taum Sauk Creek overnight low temperatures through the winter are in the 20's. Taum Sauk Creek regularly gets lots of rainfall; March is the wettest month with most rain; January is when it's the driest.
