This section of Turkey Creek is 2.6 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Missouri and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. The campgrounds here at Turkey Creek are pretty good. The beautiful Ozarks scenery is an added bonus. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you're coming from Farmington
it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. The Highway 72 to St. Francis River stretch
is the only paddling stretch along Turkey Creek. This stretch is short so no need to bring snacks. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. The average Missouri whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy.
Briefly about the general area: During the summertime at Turkey Creek temperatures are regularly in the 80's. For the period of the
moonlight hours it's usually in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Turkey Creek. But wait, there's more enjoyable things to do in the Ozarks. Going for a hike on the Silver Mine Trail is always a fine adventure,
and you could always discover Mud Creek Shut-in. Turkey Creek gets a normal amount of rainfall; most of the rain falls all through March, and the driest of the months is January.
