Missouri whitewater - Turkey Creek, Ozarks, Madison County Madison county, Highway 72 to St. Francis River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III-IV     2.6 miles   The starting location is a reasonable drive from Farmington, as you can see on the road map further down. The nature scenery of Madison County and the cool fresh water beats anything. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Turkey Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Highway 72 to St. Francis River section is the only one. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. The Highway 72 to St. Francis River stretch of Turkey Creek is 2.6 miles long     and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The Ozarks scenery is wonderful. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. Briefly about the general area: Through the warm days of summer here at Turkey Creek, high temperatures typically reach the 80's with overnight lows in the 60's. Throughout the wintertime highs   are ordinarily in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Turkey Creek. Be careful coming to the Ozarks, you might not ever wanna return back home again. There is a splendid hiking trail close to Turkey Creek called the Silver Mine Trail; Turkey Creek is in the neighborhood of Mud Creek Shut-in which is certainly worth checking out. An average amount of rain falls at Turkey Creek; most of the rain falls through March, and January is the month with the least moisture.
