The Sec 15 to Monarch section of Belt Creek in Cascade County is 19 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Montana you might find the rivers here a
bit more manageable, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The nature scenery of Montana and the water flowing gracefully down Belt Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. There's camping available near Belt Creek. When you're
paddling down a Little Belt Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. The Sec 15 to Monarch section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you won't find many other paddling rivers. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. This
stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too.
Briefly about the general area: If you're here, you might as well visit Headstone Gulch. Summertime brings highs in the 70's to Belt Creek. When the night sets in
temperatures plunge down into the 40's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's while Belt Creek nighttime low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 10's. It is very dry here at Belt Creek regularly; through May this area sees the most rain, and February is when it's the driest.
