CLASS II-III 16 miles
If you're coming from Helena it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. The Highway 287 Bridge to Missouri River stretch of Dearborn River is 16 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. The nature scenery of Montana and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are not so many other good rivers for that around here. There
are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. The Highway 287 Bridge to Missouri
River section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
