  The natural beauty of Flathead County and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. The Schafer Meadows to Bear Creek section of Flathead River - Middle Fork in Flathead County is 26 miles long and has been rated as a class I-IV section by American Whitewater. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on
    the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. If you have the time you can make this a two
day trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The beauty of the Lewis Range is a great plus for this river.

Briefly about the general area:
From a rainfall point of view Flathead River - Middle Fork is a quite normal location; of all the months in a year December is the one with the most snow while April is the month with the least amount of precipitation. During the summer, highs frequently
 
are in the 70's at Flathead River - Middle Fork. All through the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 40's. Through the winter the highs are usually in the 20's while Flathead River - Middle Fork overnight low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 10's.
That right there is heaps of cool stuff already but it goes on, the Lewis Range has it all. Have a glorious hiking adventure along the Big River Trail, and going for a hike along the Giefer Twentyfive Mile Creek Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity.
