The wonderful unknown County scenery and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Montana you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. This stretch of Flathead River - Middle Fork is 9 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The nearby hotels are a bit away
from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other places for that. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day
paddling trip. The Lewis Range scenery is wonderful. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Moccasin Creek to West Glacier section is just one of them. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Kalispell, as you can see on the road map further down.
Briefly about the general area: There are splendid sites to look at along the South Boundary Trail; don't leave Flathead River - Middle Fork without first going for a hike along the Ousel Peak Trail. If you want
a tremendous time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Lewis Range. During the warmest time of the year at Flathead River - Middle Fork highs are mostly in the 80's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's, and nighttime
lows at Flathead River - Middle Fork during the wintertime typically fall into the 10's. A typical amount of rain falls here at Flathead River - Middle Fork; the month with most of the rain is November; the driest of the months is July.
