The nature scenery of Gallatin County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Montana you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Yellowstone National Park to West Fork Gallatin section is one of them. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Not too many
hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. If you're coming from Bozeman it's not a long drive at all to the
put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are not so many other good spots for that around here. This stretch of Gallatin River in Gallatin County is 20 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater.
Briefly about the general area: At Gallatin River throughout the summer months highs are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 30's; night lows at Gallatin
River during the wintertime ordinarily plunge into the 10's. At Gallatin River you don’t see much rainfall; through May this area sees the most rain while February is commonly the driest month.
