If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Montana you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. The natural beauty of Montana and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. The trailside section of Kootenai Creek in Ravali County is 1 miles long and
is a class IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The beautiful Bitterroot Range scenery is an added bonus. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is an extremely short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. A
good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. The put-in location is a short drive from Missoula, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. The trailside section is the only paddling
section along Kootenai Creek.
Briefly about the general area: If you feel like a little side tour, try Million Gulch, and Kootenai Creek is right by the Saint Mary Peak Trail. All through the warmest time of the year, highs regularly are in the 80's at Kootenai Creek,
and the overnight is slightly cooler of course, commonly in the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Kootenai Creek. Man, is there plenty of exciting things to do in the Bitterroot Range. Kootenai
Creek gets very little precipitation; of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain, and the driest of the months is October.
