The beautiful scenery of Montana and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Quake Lake to 1 1/2 mile downstream section of Madison River in Madison County is 1.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V section. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are not so many other good spots for
that around here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Montana tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This
stretch is short so better bring some good walking shoes. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Quake Lake to 1 1/2 mile downstream stretch is one of them.
