The put-in is not too far from Bozeman, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The Madison Dam to Route 84 stretch of Madison River in Madison County is 10 miles long and has been rated as a class I-IV section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Madison County and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are not so many other good rivers for that around here. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature
have people coming from far and near. There's camping available near Madison River. There are no other sections to paddle along Madison River than the Madison Dam to Route 84 section. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead
and pack your sleeping bag. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Montana are easier than the national norm, so don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime brings highs in the 70's to Madison River. During the moonlight hours it's usually in the 40's. Throughout the wintertime the highs are mostly in the 30's
with temperatures at Madison River dipping down into the 10's during winter nights. Around Madison River you don’t get a lot of precipitation; the month with most of the rain is May; February is when it's the driest.
