Montana whitewater - Missouri River, unknown County Great Falls section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II(V)     9 miles   This section of Missouri River in Montana is 9 miles long and has been rated as a class II(V) section by American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that many runs in this state are very easy. The beautiful scenery of Montana and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. The Great     Falls stretch is the only paddling stretch along Missouri River. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are not so many other good spots for that around here. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Great Falls, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: It is very arid here at Missouri River usually; May is the month that gets the most rain while February is frequently the driest month. For the duration of the warm days of summer highs here at   Missouri River reach the 80's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. During the wintertime highs are commonly in the 30's; after the sun is down all through the winter temperatures at Missouri River descend into the 10's.
