CLASS II-IV 10 miles
The wonderful Carbon County scenery and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. This section of Rock Creek is 10 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. There are no other stretches to paddle along Rock Creek than the Lake Fork to Red Lodge stretch. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby
campground. The wild scenery of the Absaroka Range is great. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Montana are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. If you
have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the days of summer, highs frequently are in the 70's at Rock Creek. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 50's. Highs during the winter are typically in the 30's, and night lows at Rock Creek all through the wintertime generally descend into the 10's. Yep, outdoors fun
stuff truly is plentiful here in the Absaroka Range. Don't forget to explore Towne Point since you're here at Rock Creek, and Rock Creek is right by the Custer National Forest Trail. Not much rainfall falls here at Rock Creek; May is the wettest month with most rain while February
is the month with the least amount of precipitation. A fine spot close to Rock Creek is Woods Gulch, and the snow is good at Red Lodge Mountain. This is such a fun river.
