The Lake Fork to Red Lodge stretch of Rock Creek is 10 miles long and has been rated as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Carbon County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Rock Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Lake Fork to Red Lodge stretch is the only one. There's camping available near Rock Creek. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way
this area has a large number of paddling places. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your
sleeping bag. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. The wild scenery of the Absaroka Range is great.
Briefly about the general area: There's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Red Lodge Mountain, and you can go for a hike on the Custer National Forest Trail. During the warm days of summer at Rock Creek highs are frequently in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures
drop down into the 50's. Daytime highs throughout the winter are in the 30's with temperatures at Rock Creek dipping down into the 10's during winter nights. A river like this is too good to miss. Rock Creek gets very little rain; May is the month that gets the most rain; February
is when it's the driest. Yep, outdoors enjoyable stuff truly is plentiful here in the Absaroka Range. A spree to Towne Point in the neighborhood of Rock Creek is always a good idea, and close by you stumble on Woods Gulch which is a nice spot to have a look at.
