Missoula
county,
Middle and West Fork confluence to Clark Fork River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III 50 miles
The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. This section of Rock Creek is 50 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. The scenic beauty of Missoula County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near
and far. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A stretch this long is of course too much for a one day trip, so it looks like you will be camping out. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. This is the only paddling section along Rock Creek.
Briefly about the general area: Don't leave Rock Creek without first going for a hike along the Sandstone Ridge Trail, and a magnificent site close by is Cub Gulch. During the warm months highs here at Rock Creek reach the 80's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's, and night lows in the 10's for Rock Creek. It is very dried up here at
Rock Creek frequently; the month with most of the rain is May, and October on the other hand is the driest. There are nice places to explore along the Ranch Creek Trail.
