The beautiful scenery of Montana and the water flowing gracefully down Stillwater River make the trip here worthwhile. The average Montana whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. This is a somewhat short section so no need to bring snacks. Stillwater River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Upper Stillwater Lake to Lower Stillwater Lake section is the only one. section of Stillwater River in Montana is 3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels
fill up quick. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number of other rivers. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
Briefly about the general area: While you're here at Stillwater River you can take a hike along the Fort Steele Trail. All through the summer months highs here at Stillwater River get into the 80's, and the nighttime is slightly chillier of course, usually in the 40's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 20's, and after the
sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Stillwater River dip into the 10's. Stillwater River is regularly a pretty waterless location; June is when you get the most rain here while February is regularly the driest month.
