This section of Stillwater River is 11.8 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-III section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Montana is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Buffalo Jump
to Cliff Swallow section is just one of them. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. The beautiful Absaroka Range scenery is an added bonus. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make
it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The beautiful scenery of Stillwater County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the warmest time of the year at Stillwater River highs are commonly in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows fall down to the 50's. Daytime highs
through the wintertime are in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Stillwater River. If you want a delightful time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Absaroka Range. Stillwater River is a location that is rather dry generally; May is the month that
