  The nature scenery of Montana and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. If you're coming from Billings it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. The campgrounds here at Stillwater River are pretty good. Since you're on this site you are probably into
    whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are not so many other good rivers for that around here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these
hotels fill up quick. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Montana tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so better not forget that rivers in this state are less demanding. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. This section of Stillwater River is 4.5 miles long and is rated  
by American Whitewater as a class III section.

If you're visiting Stillwater River from Columbus, you won't be the only one. A spree to Stillwater River wouldn’t be complete without a tour to close by Cooney Reservoir State Park. Stillwater River is pretty dry mostly. May is the wettest month with most rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month. High temperatures at Stillwater River during the summertime are in the 80's. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's, and throughout the dark hours in the wintertime at Stillwater River temperatures sink to the 10's.
