Montana whitewater - Tenderfoot Creek, Meagher County
Meagher
county,
South Fork Tenderfoot to Smith River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II 11 miles
I'm a land owner on the Tenderfoot and I wouldn't recomend trying to float it. It is a fun place to go tubing and have short floats but it isn't a good place for an extended trip. There are numerous log jams and gravel bars to navigate. On the other hand The Smith River is awesome. Says Lee Zehntner
The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Great Falls, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This stretch of Tenderfoot Creek in Montana is 11 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section.
The average Montana whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you
coming back for more. There are no other stretches to paddle along Tenderfoot Creek than the South Fork Tenderfoot to Smith River stretch. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty small number of paddling places. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. The scenic beauty of Montana and the water flowing gracefully down Tenderfoot Creek will make you feel great. Not too many hotels
