Montana whitewater - Yellowstone River, Park County
Park
county,
Gardiner to Miner section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-III 4 miles
Yankee Jim Canyon is the only decent section of this stretch. Says Ford Smith
The Gardiner to Miner section of Yellowstone River is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. The beautiful scenery of Montana and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in
Montana is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. Not
too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
