The Mayberry Park to Cottonwood Park section of Truckee River in Nevada is 10 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-III section of whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Nevada you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. If you're coming from Reno-Sparks it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are plenty of hotels here if you
want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping
bag too. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. The beautiful Northern Sierra Nevada scenery is an added bonus. The wonderful unknown County scenery and the cool fresh water have people coming here. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
Briefly about the general area: A tour to Moana Hot Springs will fill your spirit with great
feelings. At Truckee River all through the warm days of summer highs are in the 80's. Through the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 40's. During the wintertime the highs are frequently in the 40's with temperatures at Truckee River dipping down into the 20's during winter nights.
Truckee River is generally a pretty dried out place; during January this area sees the most rain while August is ordinarily the driest month.
