This section of Truckee River is 10 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. If you're coming from Reno-Sparks it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camp stove. No need to look hard for hotels, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. here at Truckee River are pretty good. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality
time in nature have a lot of people coming here. The wild scenery of the Northern Sierra Nevada is great. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a pretty small number of paddling spots. The Mayberry Park to Cottonwood Park section is one of many paddling sections in this river system.
Briefly about the general area: Through the warm months at Truckee River highs are regularly in the 80's. Summer overnight lows fall down to the 40's. Through the winter highs are in the 40's, and after the sun is
down throughout the winter temperatures at Truckee River drop into the 20's. Truckee River is commonly a quite waterless location; the month of January is the wettest with most of the rain, and August on the other hand is the driest.
