Nevada whitewater - Truckee River, Washoe/Storey County Washoe/Storey county, East Reno/Sparks to Pyramid Lake section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.     The East Reno/Sparks to Pyramid Lake stretch of Truckee River is -blank- miles long and it is classified as a class I-II(III) section by American Whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Reno-Sparks, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wonderful Washoe/Storey County scenery and the cool fresh water have people coming here. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better     reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The East Reno/Sparks to Pyramid Lake section is the only paddling section along Truckee River. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. Briefly about the general area: Summer brings highs in the 80's to Truckee River. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 60's. For the period of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's, and nighttime lows at Truckee River all through the wintertime regularly descend into the 20's. Near Truckee River you find Tom Anderson Canyon which is a good   spot to check out. Truckee River is pretty dried out regularly; all through January this area sees the most rain, and July is when it's the driest.
