East Reno/Sparks to Pyramid Lake section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
This section of Truckee River is -blank- miles long and it is classified as a class I-II(III) section by American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Nevada you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. The put-in location is a short drive from Reno-Sparks, as you can see on the road map further down. Truckee River doesn't have a lot
of paddling stretches, the East Reno/Sparks to Pyramid Lake stretch is the only one. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The scenic beauty of Washoe/Storey County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough
to come here and paddle. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: Around Truckee River you don’t get a lot of precipitation; the month with most of the rain is January, and the driest month is July. Tom Anderson Canyon is a great place to spend some time at. For the duration of the summer months here at Truckee River, high temperatures usually reach the 80's with nighttime lows in the 60's. For the duration of the winter the highs are mostly in the 40's; night lows in the 20's for Truckee River.
