The natural beauty of Coos County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good places. This section of Androscoggin River in Coos County is 2.4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II section of whitewater. This is a pretty short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. The beautiful White Mountains scenery is an added bonus. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Pontook section is one of them. Briefly about the general area: Androscoggin River is a quite wet place usually with a lot of rain; August is when you get the most rain here; the driest month is February. Throughout the long summer days here at Androscoggin   River, high temperatures commonly get into the 70's. All through the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 50's.
