This section of Ashuelot River in Cheshire County is 3.5 miles long and is a class II-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Cheshire County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers
here are not as easy as elsewhere. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There's camping available near Ashuelot River. The Ashuelot to Hinsdale stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system.
Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. If you're coming from Keene it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
