This stretch of Branch Brook in Grafton County is 3.3 miles long and it is classified as a class II-V section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New Hampshire are harder than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The Ellsworth to Branch Brook campground stretch is the only paddling stretch along Branch Brook. Whitewater paddling here in the White Mountains is a great experience. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions
for lots of people. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is a pretty short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch.
You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Laconia, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The scenic beauty of Grafton County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Branch Brook typically tend to be in the 70's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the
50's. High temperatures during the wintertime are normally in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Branch Brook. Branch Brook gets a typical amount of yearly precipitation; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain, and February is when it's the
driest. Just can't get enough of the White Mountains. Near Branch Brook you hit upon the Peaked Hill Pond Trail which is a magnificent hiking trail, and going for a hike on the Knockers Hole Trail is always a delightful adventure.
