The put-in location is a short drive from Keene, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive     a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. This section of Cold River in Sullivan County is 5.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. There's camping available near Cold River. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the South Acworth to Vilas Pool stretch is one of them. Briefly about the general area: For the period of the summertime months highs here at Cold River get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 50's. For the period of the winter this place gets highs in the 20's with temperatures   at Cold River dipping down into the 0's throughout winter nights. All the water falling down from the sky makes Cold River a wet place; through the month of May you get the most rain around here, and the driest month of the year is February.
