This section of Contoocook River in Hillsborough County is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. The put-in is not too far from Concord, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is not the only paddling     stretch in this river system, there are others too. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside New Hampshire you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch is short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Briefly about the general area: The yearly rainfall here at Contoocook River is about average; the month with most of the rain is November, and the driest of the months is January. Everybody close by loves skiing at Pats Peak. All through the summertime at Contoocook River highs are generally in the 70's, and during the night it cools down to   the 50's.
