The Newport section of Croyden Brook in Sullivan County is 1.5 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Lebanon, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out     on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The Newport section is the only paddling section along Croyden Brook. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The wonderful Sullivan County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This is a somewhat short section so better bring some good walking shoes. Briefly about the general area: Summer brings highs in the 80's to Croyden Brook. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 50's.   Highs during the winter are generally in the 20's, and through the dark hours in the winter at Croyden Brook temperatures descend to the 0's. From a rain point of view Croyden Brook is a reasonably normal place; August is when you get the most rain here; the driest month of the year is February.
