New Hampshire whitewater - Croyden Brook, Sullivan County Sullivan county, Newport section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     1.5 miles   Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The Newport stretch of Croyden Brook in Sullivan County is 1.5 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Lebanon, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Croyden Brook doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Newport section is the only one. There are campgrounds     quite near the river where you can camp. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This is a pretty short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. The beautiful scenery of New Hampshire and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Briefly about the general area: Throughout the months of summer highs here at Croyden Brook get into the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 50's. Throughout   the wintertime highs are usually in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Croyden Brook. Croyden Brook gets a typical amount of rainfall; most of the rain falls during August, and February on the other hand is the driest.
