If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside New Hampshire you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The beautiful scenery of Carroll County and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. The beautiful White Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Lodging is available near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming
back for more. The campgrounds here at Ellis River are pretty good. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There are no other sections to paddle along Ellis River than the Route 16 to Jackson Golf Course section. This
stretch of Ellis River in New Hampshire is 6 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that.
Briefly about the general area: Yeah, come up here to the White Mountains for a magnificent time. Ellis River is right by the Wildcat Cutoff. Take a hike on the Langlaup Trail; you'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Black Mountain if you're here. Through the summer months at Ellis
River temperatures are regularly in the 50's, and the overnight is quite cooler of course, typically in the 40's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 10's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Ellis River sink into the-10's. Ellis River mostly gets a good deal of precipitation; November is the month that gets the most snow; July is when it's the driest.
