The nature scenery of Carroll County and the cool fresh water beats anything. The beauty of the White Mountains is a great plus for this river. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. There are no other sections to paddle along Ellis River than the Route 16 to Jackson Golf Course section. On
this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. This section of Ellis River in Carroll County is 6 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. The average New Hampshire whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends
to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: Skiing at Black Mountain is one of those things you just must do, and you can have a nice hiking adventure along the Langlaup Trail. High temperatures at Ellis River all through the summer months are in the 50's while night lows are mostly in the 40's. The winter comes with highs
in the 10's, and after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Ellis River plunge into the-10's. That right there is heaps of entertaining stuff already but it goes on, the White Mountains has it all. Hiking along the Wildcat Cutoff is brilliant fun. The high level
of rainfall makes Ellis River a quite wet site; the wettest month of the year is regularly November, that's the one that snows the most; the driest month is July.
