The wonderful New Hampshire scenery and the cool fresh water have people coming here. The starting location is a short drive from Laconia, as you can see on the road map further down. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The Highway 49 Bridge to Campton section of Mad River in Grafton County is 7.8 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater
according to American Whitewater. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New Hampshire are often more challenging than in other states, so better not forget that
many runs in this state are not easy. The beauty of the White Mountains is a great plus for this river. No need to look hard for hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too.

the wintertime temperatures at Mad River dip into the 0's. So many entertaining things to do in the White Mountains, not sufficient time. Really brilliant skiing awaits you at Waterville Valley; do take a hike on the Welch Mountain Trail. This river has it all. A common amount
of precipitation falls here at Mad River; the month with most of the rain is August, and February is when it's the driest. A short journey to Shell Cascade is always worthwhile, and Mad River is right by the Smarts Brook Trail.
