The natural beauty of New Hampshire and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Laconia, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. There are many good hotels to choose from,
and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This stretch is very short so no need to bring snacks. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Gorge section is one of them. The Gorge section of Mad River is 1 miles long and it is classified as a class
III section by American Whitewater. The wild scenery of the White Mountains is great. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New Hampshire is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: At Mad River through the warm months highs are in the 70's while night lows are mostly in the 50's. All through the wintertime the highs are ordinarily in the 20's; overnight lows in the 0's for Mad
River. There's no way somebody can get bored here in the White Mountains. Mad River gets a typical amount of rainfall; August is the month that gets the most rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month. Hiking along the Dickey Mountain Trail is good fun, and going for a hike along the Welch Mountain Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood.
