This stretch of Merrimack River is 5.3 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II+(III) section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Hillsborough County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Lodging is available near the river,
but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. The campgrounds here at Merrimack River are pretty good. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New Hampshire are harder than
the national norm, so don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy.
Briefly about the general area: There's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby McIntyre. A great deal of rain falls at Merrimack River; November is the month that gets the most rain while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. During the months of summer at Merrimack River temperatures are frequently in the 80's with nighttime lows in the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 20's, and overnight lows at Merrimack River during the wintertime usually fall into the 10's.
