The nature scenery of New Hampshire and the water flowing gracefully down Merrimack River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The put-in is not too far from Concord, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside New Hampshire you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. Penacook section of Merrimack River in New Hampshire is 18 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I section. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Franklin to Penacook section is one of them.
Briefly about the general area: During the months of summer, highs commonly are in the 80's at Merrimack River. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Merrimack
River. Merrimack River gets a common amount of annual precipitation; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month of the year is January. There's a fine forest in close proximity to Merrimack River called Merrimack River State Forest.
