The nature scenery of Grafton County and the playfulness of the water beats anything. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Concord, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This stretch of Newfound River River in Grafton County is 1.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater.
A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared
to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. The White Mountains scenery is wonderful. The Newfound lake to Bristol section is the only paddling section along Newfound River River.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Newfound River River through the warmest time of the year are in the 80's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's generally in the 50's. The wintertime brings
highs down to the 20's; after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Newfound River River fall into the 0's. Pikes Point is not far from Newfound River River at all. Newfound River River is a good spot of common rain; May is when you get the most rain here; the driest of the months is January.
