The Route 16 to Gorham section of Peabody River in New Hampshire is 5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV section. The put-in location is a short drive from Berlin, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. On this section
you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here
you'll find a large number of good rivers. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Route 16 to Gorham stretch is one of them. The White Mountains scenery is wonderful. The beautiful scenery of New Hampshire and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile.
Briefly about the general area: So many amusing things to do in the White Mountains, not enough time. Peabody River gets a normal amount of yearly rainfall; of all
the months in a year August is the one with the most rain while January is mostly the driest month. Take a hike on the Imp Trail, and hiking along the Stony Brook Trail is brilliant fun. High temperatures at Peabody River during the summer are in the 70's. Once the sun is down
it dips down to the 50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 20's while Peabody River nighttime low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 0's.
