The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New Hampshire are often tougher than in other states, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. This section of Saco River in Carroll County is 6.2 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Carroll County and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the
Crawford Notch to Bartlett section is one of them. The starting point is not too far from Laconia, as you can see on the road map further down. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling
places. No need to look hard for hotels, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whitewater paddling here in the White Mountains is a great experience. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: So much exciting stuff in the White Mountains, just tremendous. Good hiking is available along the Mount Parker Trail. A good deal of precipitation falls at Saco
River; most of the rain falls through August, and the driest month of the year is January. Through the days of summer highs here at Saco River get into the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 50's. Highs through the winter are regularly in the 20's,
and after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Saco River sink into the 0's. Don't leave Saco River without first going for a hike along the Razor Brook Trail, and a cool spot to stop at is Hart Ledge.
