The Route 302 at Lower Bartlett stretch of Saco River - East Branch in Carroll County is 2.1 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV section. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The scenic beauty of Carroll County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater paddling here in the White Mountains is a great experience. There are many good hotels to choose from, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking,
either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This is a somewhat short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in
other states, so keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. The Route 302 at Lower Bartlett stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system.
Briefly about the general area: There are perfect sites to explore along the Number Five Ski Trail, and you can hit the slopes at Black Mountain in close proximity. Saco River - East Branch is a pretty wet place commonly with lots of rainfall; November is the wettest month with most
snow, and February on the other hand is the driest. So much cool stuff to do here in the White Mountains, too magnificent to be true. Go for a hike on the New Path Trail. Summertime at Saco River - East Branch arrives with high temperatures in the 70's. Through the dark hours
of summer temperatures descend down into the 50's. For the duration of the wintertime highs are usually in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Saco River - East Branch.
