The starting point is not too far from Laconia, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This stretch of Sawyer River is 3.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class V section. The nature scenery of New Hampshire and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. The beautiful White Mountains scenery is an added bonus. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There are nice comfortable
hotels here, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch is short so no need to bring snacks. This is the only paddling stretch along Sawyer River. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either
way this area has a large number of paddling places. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New Hampshire are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners.
Briefly about the general area: Have a magnificent hiking adventure along the Livermore Trail, and Owls Cliff is a good place to explore while in the region. Now, you may feel that's a heap but there's even more exciting stuff to do here in the White Mountains. Going for a hike along the Mount Tremont Trail will
let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity. A normal amount of rainfall falls here at Sawyer River; most of the rain falls all through August, and February is when it's the driest. Summertime highs at Sawyer River mostly tend to be in the 70's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. During the winter highs are in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Sawyer River.
