Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New Hampshire are harder than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The scenic beauty of Grafton County and the water flowing gracefully down Smarts Brook will make you feel great. When you're paddling down a White Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whether you're
whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The campgrounds here at Smarts Brook are pretty good. This stretch of Smarts Brook in Grafton County is 1.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V section of whitewater. This
is a pretty short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. The Thornton section is the only paddling section along Smarts Brook. The put-in is not too far from Laconia, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here.

that falls at Smarts Brook is close to the national average; August is the wettest month with most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture. Hiking along the Welch Mountain Trail is delightful fun, and hey, Gotta ski right? Waterville Valley is a fine site to
do that. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Smarts Brook. Summer nighttime lows sink down to the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 20's while Smarts Brook night low temperatures throughout the winter are in the 0's.
