New Hampshire whitewater - Souhegan River, Hillsborough County Hillsborough county, Greenville to New Hampshire Route 101 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     5.75 miles   If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The put-in is not too far from Manchester-Nashua, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area     has a large number of paddling places. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The Greenville to New Hampshire Route 101 section of Souhegan River in Hillsborough County is 5.75 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. There are some good hotels near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. Briefly about the general area: Russell-Abbott State Forest is a great local forest, and hiking along the Mitchell Hill Road is wonderful fun. The high level of rain makes Souhegan River a relatively wet location; November is when you get the most rain here; the driest month of the year is September. For the duration of   the long summer days highs here at Souhegan River reach the 70's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Souhegan River are in the 10's.
