New Hampshire whitewater - Suncook River, Merrimack County Merrimack county, Pittsfield to North Chichester section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II+(III)     6 miles   The Pittsfield to North Chichester stretch of Suncook River in Merrimack County is 6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II+(III) section. The wonderful New Hampshire scenery and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The put-in location is a short drive from Laconia, as you can see on the road map further down. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room     before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Pittsfield to North Chichester stretch is one of them. There's camping available near Suncook River. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. Briefly about the general area: If the weather is great here at Suncook River, you can go for a hike along the Onemile Trail. During the warm months at Suncook River temperatures are regularly in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 20's while Suncook River overnight low temperatures during the winter are in the 0's.
