  The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New Hampshire are often tougher than in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. This stretch of Swift River in Carroll/ Grafton County is 4 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. The natural beauty of Carroll/ Grafton County and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. Whitewater paddling here in the White
    Mountains is a great experience. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. Great
exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Laconia, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that.

A typical amount of rain falls here at Swift River; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain while February is generally the driest month. High temperatures at Swift
 
River all through the months of summer are in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 50's. Throughout the wintertime highs are typically in the 20's, and after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at Swift River dip into the 0's.
Having a nice time in the White Mountains is painless. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Swift River; Sawyer Run Trail is a great local trail, and the Swift River Trail offers hiking at its best.
