The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Laconia, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The Bear Notch Road to Rocky Gorge stretch of Swift River in Carroll/ Grafton County is 4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-III section of whitewater. The beautiful scenery of New Hampshire and the water flowing gracefully down Swift River have people coming here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. And
of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New Hampshire tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with
plenty of places for that. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Bear Notch Road to Rocky Gorge section is one of them. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. The White Mountains scenery is wonderful. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more.
Briefly about the general area: Through the summertime at Swift River highs are generally in the 70's with overnight lows in the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are in the
20's, and throughout the dark hours in the wintertime at Swift River temperatures fall to the 0's. Don't leave Swift River without first going for a hike along the Sawyer Run Trail, and there's delightful hiking along the Swift River Trail. Whohoo, so many amusing things in
