The Above York Pond Road section of Upper Ammonoosuc River - West Branch is 2 miles long and it is classified as a class IV section by American Whitewater. The nature scenery of New Hampshire and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. The put-in location is a short drive from Berlin, as you can see on the road map further down. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers
here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. Upper Ammonoosuc River - West Branch doesn't have
a lot of paddling stretches, the Above York Pond Road stretch is the only one. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This section is quite short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. When you're paddling down a White Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too.
